Lake of Egypt
Southern Illinois Power Cooperative is located on the shores of Lake of Egypt, a 2300 acre lake with 93 miles of shoreline developed by SIPC for cooling water. The lake has an average depth of 18 feet (5.5 m) with a maximum depth of 52 feet (15.8 m). Terms of use from SIPC are in the “Official Lake of Egypt Rules and Regulations” that may be found on this site. The lake is open to the public. SIPC does not allow racing type boats, boats with loud, open or uninhibited exhaust systems, boats with toilet, kitchen or lodging facilities or boats with sidewalls. Pontoon boats must not exceed 28 feet and hull boats may not exceed 20 feet. Any boats using full ballast tanks or any other equipment, apparatus, or design for wake surfing are prohibited. Waterskiing, tubing and jet skis are permitted in the designated areas. Fishing includes Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Striped Bass, and Crappie. As a privately owned lake, Lake of Egypt is subject to regulation by its owners and the state.
SIPC owns the Lake of Egypt and the shoreline up to the 505 elevation and in some instances up to the 510 elevation. Waterfront property owners must execute a Shoreline Agreement annually with SIPC which allows the property owner a nonexclusive license to use the portion of SIPC’s property which adjoins the owner’s property and extends from the boundary of owners property to the water’s edge. No permanent structures or buildings may be placed on SIPC’s property without SIPC’s prior written approval. Use of SIPC’s property is for personal and family recreational use only, no commercial or business use of any nature is permitted. Construction of boat docks and dredging are considered after application has been made to SIPC. Prior to construction of a boat dock or any other improvements on SIPC’s property, owner must present to SIPC a detailed plan with specifications for the improvements. Property owners may also obtain information from the Lake of Egypt Association of Property Owners (LEAPO) at www.leapo.com. There are three full service marinas on Lake of Egypt.

Lake of Egypt Country Club is situated on the Lake of Egypt and is a 9-hole golf course which opened in 1969. This is a private club with membership required. The course has zoysia fairways and bent grass greens. For more information, call 618-995-2661 or visit their website at www.loecc.com.
